Steel Pipe Sizes

Knowing the measurements of the different steel pipe sizes is simply not enough if you really want to find the size that is suitable for your needs. You also need to become aware of how they are most commonly used so that you will not end up using the wrong one. Here are some of the most common steel pipe sizes out there.

Pipes with a cross section measurement of less than 16 inches – These pipes are called standard steel pipes.  They are larger in comparison to the other steel pipe sizes that are available today. They are made in large measurements because they are mostly used in heating systems, natural gas systems and other types of compounds and chemicals that require a tube that has a large circumference.

Pipes with a diameter of 1.8-42 inches – Long versions of these pipes that have this diameter is mostly known as line steel pipes. These pipes are most commonly used for creating a path for highly flammable materials such as nuclear gases. Since they are long, their chances of developing leaks are lesser.

Pipes that are 2-60 inches in diameter – Pipes that come in these sizes are mostly used to serve as a passageway for different types of gases, both flammable and non-flammable. This is the reason why they are most commonly known as gas pipes.

Pipes that have an inner diameter of 4-48 inches – These types of pipes are most commonly called as oil pipes since they are most commonly used to transport oil. Their thick diameter is ideal for the viscosity of different types of oils and other thick compounds.

Pipes that have a thickness of less than 11mm – Pipes with these measurements that are also made from a very hot furnace is called structural steel pipes. These types of pipes are most commonly used in big establishments and factories since they can handle a lot of pressure. This is the reason why they are also called infrastructural pipes.

Sewage Pipe and Galvanized Steel Pipe – Out of the different types of pipes out there, these two types are the most versatile ones. This is because sewage pipes and galvanized steel pipes come in a wide variety of steel pipe sizes. It all depends on the volume of water and other solutes that are going to travel inside of them on a daily basis.

Different types of pipes come in different sizes and composition. It all depends on the space where you are going to install it. This is why you need to become aware of the other steel pipe sizes out there and find the one that fits your needs perfectly.
